Who is Wegovy for?
Wegovy is for adults with obesity or overweight who have a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or greater, or a BMI of 27 or greater and at least one weight-related medical condition.
How does Wegovy work?
Wegovy (semaglutide) works by mimicking the effects of a natural hormone called GLP-1. GLP-1 is released after eating and helps to control appetite by making you feel fuller and more satisfied after eating.
It also slows down the movement of food through your digestive system, which can help you feel full for longer and therefore reduce the urge to eat more.
Contraindications
Wegovy is not for everyone. You should not take Wegovy if you have:
- A history of pancreatitis
- A personal or family history of medullary thyroid cancer
- Uncontrolled thyroid disease
- A condition that affects how your body uses sugar, such as type 1 diabetes
- A history of allergic reactions to semaglutide or any of the ingredients in Wegovy
