Consultant Bariatric Surgeon

Professor Marcus Reddy is an industry-leading Consultant Bariatric Surgeon, whose NHS and private practice spans a range of laparoscopic and open general surgery and he operates across all types of bariatric surgery including:

  • Laparoscopic gastric banding
  • Sleeve gastrectomy
  • Roux en y gastric bypass
  • Revision surgery
  • Super-obesity

Mr Reddy is the senior upper gastro-intestinal surgeon at St George’s Hospital and a senior lecturer at the medical school. He developed the South Thames Bariatric Service which is the preferred provider for NHS bariatric surgery in the region. He is the Director of Bariatric Surgery at the Cleveland Clinic London.

He was a founder member of the committee that established the National Bariatric Surgery Registry and an active member of many prestigious associations including the British Obesity  & Metabolic Surgery Society (BOMSS) and International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders (IFSO).

He has lectured nationally and internationally on bariatric surgery.

Experience

  • Fully accredited on the UK General Medical Council’s Specialist Register for general surgery with a nominated special interest in upper gastrointestinal and hepato-pancreato-biliary surgery.
  • Member of the committee overseeing the National Bariatric Surgery Database, a senior lecturer in surgery at St George’s, University of London and an active member at many prestigious associations.
  • Lead upper GI surgeon at St George’s Hospital NHS Trust, London and developed the South Thames Bariatric Service which is the preferred provider for NHS bariatric surgery in the region.
  • Member of the committee overseeing the National Bariatric Surgery Database, a Senior Lecturer in surgery at St George’s and an active member of many prestigious associations, including the Association of Laparoscopic Surgeons, Association of Upper GI Surgeons and British Obesity, and the Metabolic Surgery Society.
  • Lectured nationally and internationally on bariatric surgery.
  • Trained in London and Australia where he gained experience in upper GI surgery, liver transplant, hepatobiliary surgery and laparoscopic bariatric surgery.
