Reflux Management “Linx”

Procedure for “GORD”

Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GORD) is a chronic, often progressive disease resulting from a weak Lower Oesophageal Sphincter.
It is estimated to affect 10-20% of the Western world to some degree.
The weak lower oesophageal sphincter allows acid and bile to reflux from the stomach into the oesophagus, which is highly uncomfortable for the sufferer. Common symptoms include heartburn, regurgitation and trouble swallowing.

Reflux Disease Treatment

The LINX® System is a medical device that augments the weak Lower Oesophageal Sphincter (LOS), restoring the body’s natural barrier to reflux.

It is recommended for those diagnosed with chronic GORD, who are on acid suppression medication yet still experiencing reflux symptoms.

  • The small flexible band of interlinked titanium beads with magnetic cores is placed around the esophagus just above the stomach.
  • The magnetic attraction between the beads helps the lower oesophageal sphincter resist opening to gastric pressures, preventing reflux from the stomach into the oesophagus.
  • Food and liquid can be swallowed as normal, as the magnetic attraction is temporarily broken allowing food and drink to pass into the stomach.
  • Immediately after swallowing, magnetic attraction closes the lower oesophageal sphincter to prevent reflux from the stomach back into the oesophagus.
