Claire’s “Best Decision Ever”

gastric sleeve story “14 months ago I underwent a laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy and since losing seven stone, I can honestly say it was the best thing I have ever done.  I feel healthy and unbelievably happier since losing the weight.

I had always been overweight and from the age of 13 had begun Slimming World and Weight Watchers.  However I never got the lasting results that I wanted.

At 21, I went back to piling on the pounds and I discovered that I was finishing off my fiancé, Steve’s meal too!

I had enough of feeling so tired, wearing clothes that hid my stomach and listening to doctors tell me how unfit I was.  That was when I made an appointment to see Mr Reddy and his team.

I was explained all options and at no time did I feel pressured into making any decision.  He supported me so much, answered all my questions over phone and email.  Then I decided to have the surgery in January 2011.

I had read previous testimonials which showed lasting results but I knew that it would not be an easy ride.  The pre-op diet to shrink my liver proved tough but again the support I received from Mr Reddy and Steve got me through it and before I knew it the day of the surgery had arrived.

I am a nurse and have been told on countless times that I make the worst patient but the hospital staff were amazing.  I had horrible gas pain after the surgery – where they inflate your abdomen to get to your stomach which took a good week to go away.  I was given lots of pain relief at the hospital though which seemed to do the job.

The only thing I struggled with was getting used to the portion sizing.  I was used to eating so much before it was difficult to adapt but it’s just something you get used to.  I only eat the amount I need to now and stop when I am full.

I had a few follow up appointments with Mr Reddy and he was only at the end of an email to answer any of my questions.  Even now we still email just to update on my progress.

I cannot describe how good I feel especially when friends comment on how well I have done.  I would go through all that again in an instant to continue feeling this good.  I also used to say to people I cheated and had surgery but it is not cheating.  It is still hard work due to the effort and experience you go through but I can honestly say that I have no regrets at all!

The best decision I made by far!”
